UK tour operator First Choice hit by terror scares
25/10/2006 - 07:47:57Tour operator First Choice Holidays today admitted bird flu scares in the eastern Mediterranean coupled with recent airport security alerts would impact on full-year profits.
The company said there was a slowdown in the rate of sales during the summer, while a delay in bookings due to the World Cup and July’s heatwave would also have an effect.
It said weaker holiday prices in August meant the firm was unable to fully recover increased fuel costs of £45m (€67m) from the customer.
First Choice, whose brands include Falcon and Sovereign, had expected a bright summer after seeing revenues increase 4% in the first six months of the year.
