Strachan hands Sno Champions League debut
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan handed Evander Sno his Champions League debut in the Hoops’ home Group F match against Benfica.
The 19-year-old Dutchman, as expected, took over from the injured Thomas Gravesen in midfield, the Dane ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink failed to recover from an ankle injury and was replaced by Maciej Zurawski who was put alongside Kenny Miller in attack.
Jiri Jarosik was dropped to the bench for Miller while midfielder Aiden McGeady was missing altogether with an ankle knock.
Benfica had Portugal international Nuno Gomes spearheading their three-man attack along with Simao and Fabrizio Miccoli as they looked for their first victory in the section ahead of the return leg against the Parkhead side in a fortnight’s time.
