Ryder Cup hero Coin Montgomerie today took time out from his schedule to coach the golfing stars of the future.

Montgomerie ran the rule over a group of children as part of the HSBC Wee Wonders Open Golf Championships, the UK’s leading golf competition for five to 12-year-olds.

The programme attracts more than 1000 young aspiring golfers each year, playing in 67 local qualifiers over nine regions.

Winners of age categories proceed through tournament stages to compete in the Grand Final at the home of golf, St Andrews.

“I’m really pleased to be involved with the HSBC Wee Wonders,” said Montgomerie. “It’s a fantastic initiative and great for grass-roots golf.”
