Record numbers of intellectually-disabled unable to get care
13/10/2006 - 12:18:20The number of people with intellectual disabilities who cannot access full-time care has reached record levels, according to a new report from the Health Research Board.
The report says more than 2,000 people are in need of a residential place and the figure is expected to rise in the coming years.
The situation has arisen despite the fact that more full-time services than ever are being made available to people with intellectual disabilities.
The Health Research Board says this is because population increases and longer life expectancies are leading to a significantly increased demand for services.
