Figures show increase in number of children abducted in 2005

In 2005, 154 child abduction cases were received by the Department of Justice from the Central Authority for Child Abduction.

The Central Authority for Child Abduction processed 127 cases in 2005 including 33 cases carried on from 2004.

Seventy of this cases involved child abductions into Ireland from other countries.

Twenty six of these cases involved children from England and Wales, five from the USA and three from Northern Ireland and Scotland

Fifty seven cases involved abductions from Ireland to other countries again mostly to England and Wales.

There were three cases involving Spain and the states.

These figures which have been released by the Department of Justice today represent an increase of 24 cases on 2004.
