13/10/2006 - 08:46:38
At least €250m of taxpayers' money has been spent on more than 40 separate tribunals and inquiries over the past 10 years.

New figures from the Government show that just over €58m of this has been spent on the ongoing Mahon Tribunal into alleged planning corruption in Dublin.

The final cost of the inquiry is expected to be a multiple of this as the issue of third-party costs has yet to be finalised.

Elsewhere, the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse has cost €34m so far, while the Morris tribunal into garda corruption in Donegal has cost €26m and Moriarty Tribunal €25m.
