O'Connor looks for Premiership move
Garry O’Connor is set to quit Lokomotiv Moscow for the sake of his homesick family.
The 23-year-old striker was a substitute in Scotland’s 1-0 win over France last night.
And the former Hibernian star is hoping to win a permanent move back to Britain – with the Premiership or the Coca-Cola Championship top of his list – after revealing how his wife has failed to settle in Russia.
“Family comes first,” he said. “Their happiness is the most important thing and Lisa can’t settle out there.
“I have a son Josh, who is nearly three, and I have to do what is right for them.
“Lisa is back in Scotland a lot of the time and it’s just a case of me having to look at the bigger picture at the end of our season next month.”
O’Connor has already told his Russian bosses he is thinking of giving up his lucrative contract to have a crack at English football.
“They understand my situation,” he added. “Money isn’t everything but the family means everything to me and I have also spoken to my mum and dad about it all.
“Maybe January will be the time but, if not, then next summer.
“Ideally I’d like to go to the Premiership and, if not, the Championship.
“I could never go to Hearts. I couldn’t do that to Hibs. I have too many friends still there.”
