Opinion poll spells bad news for the PDs

08/10/2006 - 10:17:40
A new opinion poll out today has revealed bad news for the Progressive Democrats, warning that one of their representatives could be voted out of his constituency in the next election.

Deputy Noel Grealish looks set to lose his seat in Galway West, according to the survey carried out for the Irish Mail on Sunday.

The poll's findings show Fine Gael and the Greens will be battling for the fifth seat in the constituency.

Tom Felle of the Irish Mail on Sunday said the transfers aren't helping the PDs.

“Fine Gael TD Padriag McCormac has retired there,” he said.

“Fine Gael's two candidates are really eating into that vote which is obviously going to be worrying for the PDs. This is of course Bob Malloy’s old heartland.

"Bob Molloy held a seat there for many, many years. He retired at the last election when Noel Grealish was elected. So you'd have to imagine they're going to put up an almighty fight to hold onto this seat.”
