Catholic agency refuses to trawl files for abuse allegations

The Catholic Church's marriage advisory service is reportedly refusing to co-operate with a request from the Archbishop of Dublin to trawl through confidential files for allegations of abuse.

The Irish Catholic newspaper says the Accord agency feels it would be unethical to do so as it would compromise the trust placed in their counselling service.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has instructed Accord, Catholic Youth Care and Crosscare to review their files for any allegations of abuse that might need to be reported to Gardaí.

The other two church-run agencies are understood to have complied with the instruction.
