Ireland squad fly out to Nicosia ahead of Cyprus tie

04/10/2006 - 10:00:05
The Ireland squad are due to fly out to Cyprus this afternoon ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifier in Nicosia on Saturday.

Manager Steve Staunton has lost a string of players through injury ahead of the match, including goalkeeper Shay Given and midfielder Steven Reid.

He revealed yesterday that Stephen Carr had picked up a hamstring knock and would miss the Cyprus game as well as the match against the Czech Republic at Lansdowne Road next Wednesday.

Kevin Doyle is also nursing an ankle injury and is doubtful for Saturday's tie, but should be fit for the Czech encounter.

Elsewhere, Clinton Morrison and Paddy Kenny sat out training yesterday with slight knocks, but are expected to be available for both games.
