Strong earthquake rattles Trinidad

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 rattled Trinidad and northern Venezuela today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No damage or injuries were immediately reported. The 9:08am (2.08am Irish time) tremor swayed buildings in the Trinidadian capital, Port-of-Spain, and some schools were evacuated.

The earthquake was centred 26 miles north-west of Port-of-Spain in the Caribbean Sea, according to the USGS.

It was also felt in Grenada, 100 miles north of Trinidad.
