New treatments reduce risk of breast cancer recurrence

Women with early-stage breast cancer stand a better chance of having no recurrence due to new treatments being tested in Irish hospitals.

Doctors involved in the clinical trials say the treatments are stopping progression of the disease earlier and more permanently.

They also say the new drugs are slowing down the condition in patients at an advanced stage.

Dr John Kennedy of Saint James Hospital says the benefits of these new treatments are quite substantial and the oncology community is extremely enthusiastic about them.
