Consumer confidence improves due to falling oil prices

Consumer confidence in Ireland has improved in the past month, according to the latest figures from the ESRI and IIB Bank.

The two organisations say their consumer sentiment index was up slightly during September, mainly due to falling international oil prices.

However, the fall in oil prices is being offset by ongoing rises in the cost of living and the underlying trend is one of falling consumer confidence in the prospects for the economy.
