Redknapp defends 'nice guy' Bond

28/09/2006 - 01:12:15
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has leapt to the defence of former assistant boss Kevin Bond, who has been implicated in the Panorama probe into bungs.

Bond was this week sacked by Newcastle, where he was number two to boss Glenn Roeder, after his name featured in the BBC programme into corruption in football.

However, Bond has strenuously denied suggestions he was ready to discuss receiving illegal payments and is ready to go to court to demand full transcripts from the BBC to prove his innocence.

Now Redknapp has waded in to defend his former assistant at Fratton Park.

“You‘d not meet a straighter fella than Kevin. He‘s a fantastic coach, a real football man,” the Pompey boss told The Sun.

“It would never enter his mind to do anything wrong, never ever. If he‘s got one fault maybe it‘s he‘s too nice a guy.”
