Dolan sticks with Leitrim

28/09/2006 - 16:00:13
Tommy Murphy Cup finalists Leitrim have been boosted ahead of the 2007 season with the news that Dessie Dolan senior is remaining on as manager.

The former Westmeath player has his best season yet in 2006, leading Leitrim to the Tommy Murphy Cup final, for what was the county's first senior outing at Croke Park in eleven years.

Unfortunately the August 27 decider saw them lose 3-14 to 1-11 to a hungry Louth side.

The Coosan native took the Leitrim reins from Declan Rowley in October 2004 for what was his first inter-county posting.

He has coached Athlone IT, Ballymahon (Longford) and Garrycastle, the club of his own two sons Dessie jnr and Gary, in recent seasons and was a selector when Eamonn Coleman was in charge of Longford in the 1990s.
