28/09/2006 - 08:29:26
Two teenagers are still in custody this morning after they were arrested following the drive-by shooting of a garda sergeant in south Dublin yesterday.

The officer was standing outside a house in Crumlin that had been targeted in an earlier gun attack when he was hit by a shotgun blast from a passing car.

The vehicle was pursued to the nearby Drimnagh area, where it crashed.

Two teenagers, both believed to be 16 years old, were subsequently arrested while trying to hijack a van.

The wounded garda is understood to have been hit by shotgun pellets in the chest and arm, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
