150,000 expected to attend 2006 Ploughing Championships
27/09/2006 - 08:30:28More than 150,000 people are expected to attend the National Ploughing Championships in Tullow, Co Carlow during the next four days.
Minister for Agriculture Mary Coughlan will officially open the championships at midday today.
The event will feature a range of stalls showcasing everything from agricultural machinery to home-made produce, as well as a show called the JCB Dancing Diggers.
The Health and Safety Authority will also be holding a major demonstration on farm safety in an effort to reduce the number of accidents and deaths on Irish farms.
The showpiece of the championships will see 327 top ploughmen and women from 28 countries competing in the National Ploughing Finals and the World Ploughing Contest.
