An Irish actress will appear alongside Stephen Fry in a cliff-hanger end to a new drama series to air on ITV early next year, it was confirmed today.

Kelly Campbell, from Dublin’s Swords, who previously starred in Bachelor’s Walk, plays mysterious 26-year-old Dubliner Honor O’Sullivan in the series, Kingdom.

Kelly said: “This is my first drama series in the UK, I only recently expanded into London. It blew me away when I was offered it, you normally expect when you go over to London, you would normally have to wait a year or so.

“It was my second audition, it was just the timing and luck.”

In the series, which will screen in on UTV, Stephen Fry plays country solicitor Peter Kingdom who has been searching for answers to the mystery surrounding the death of his brother Simon.

Kelly, who has completed filming the final cliff-hanger episode, said her appearance will provide a revelation crucial to the overall plot.

She said: “It is a comedy drama. The scripts are lovely, I’d say it will do well, it has that kind of dry humour.”

The actress has played the role of Jane in series two and three of Bachelor’s Walk and appears in the forthcoming RTÉ Christmas Special of the show. She will also take the lead role as Roxanne in Cyrano de Bergerac for Barabbas at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin in November.

Dublin-based company, Parallel Film and Television Productions, set-up by Simon Wheeler and Alan Moloney, who worked on Intermission, Breakfast on Pluto and television series The Clinic, was commissioned by ITV to make the six-episode series. It is being made in association with Fry’s production company, Sprout.

Filming for the series, which is going under the working title of Kingdom, has just been completed in Norfolk.

Stephen Fry said: “Kingdom promises viewers a glimpse of the locations I love. It’s an hour in front of the television that will wash you in colours, textures, landscapes and characters that delight.”

The series, created by Simon Wheeler, follows Peter Kingdom’s life in the village of Market Shipborough.

On the plot, executive producer Simon Wheeler, said: “Peter Kingdom is a lawyer who thinks human issues are more important than the law. The problems he has to solve during the series are many and varied, but they rarely have much to do with the law. Peter Kingdom is a man who is full of humility and vulnerability who genuinely wants to help people.”

The cast includes actors Hermione Norris, Celia Imrie, as well as comedian Rory Bremner.
