Govt urged to grant access to Romanians and Bulgarians
27/09/2006 - 12:03:41The body representing chambers of commerce across the country is calling on the Government to allow unrestricted migration from Romania and Bulgaria next year.
Yesterday, the European Commission approved the two countries' applications to become EU members on January 1, 2007.
The Government has yet to decide whether to exercise its rights to restrict migration from the new member states for a certain period.
Chambers Ireland says no such restrictions should be imposed as Ireland benefited greatly from allowing free access to citizens of the 10 countries that joined the EU in May 2004.
