Woods disappointed with nude photos claims
US Ryder Cup star Tiger Woods has said he is very disappointed with the treatment of his wife by certain sections of the Irish media.
The Dubliner magazine has claimed the American's wife Elin has posed naked on websites.
The Star newspaper in Britain has also run a front-page story about the claims today.
Speaking at the K Club this morning, Woods said his wife had never posed for such photos and expressed disappointment with the media for failing to stick to the facts.
"My wife has been a model and she did do some bikini photos, but to link her to porn websites is unacceptable," he said.
Woods has insisted that his wife, daughter of a Swedish government minster, has never posed naked. The pictures apparently show her head superimposed on the body of another woman. The American is thought to be considering legal action.
The world number one should have been playing when he was speaking, but all plans changed when rain and winds gusting to over 40mph caused early morning headaches for police and organisers of the match.
Spectators and “non-essential” workers were kept out of the K Club until 10am while safety checks were made, with buses to the course being halted and the park-and-ride system suspended.
Conditions did ease sufficiently for the fans to see the players practising, but it was not the full day’s action many had hoped for – and there is a forecast of more bad weather to come.
The possibility of the match spilling into Monday has not been ruled out.
Ian Woosnam’s side were first onto the practice range and the course, the Welshman encouraging his players to put in an appearance at the very least considering Ireland has waited 79 years to stage the match.
In one respect the former Masters champion is not displeased to see rough weather. “I think it’s favourable for us,” he said. “We have played much more in these conditions.”
He did shuffle his pack for their second outing this week and almost certainly gave a clearer insight into what he plans for Friday’s start.
Four successful partnerships from the record-breaking win in Detroit two years ago were back together – Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey and David Howell and, for the second day running, Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood.
Of the four others Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul McGinley each took one of the uncapped players, Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson.
There is also tomorrow morning’s session – weather-permitting – before Woosnam and opposite number Tom Lehman have to hand in their pairings for the opening foursomes.
