Evie on course for Sun Chariot Stakes

20/09/2006 - 13:01:42
Michael Bell has confirmed Matron Stakes winner Red Evie will take her chance in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday week.

The three-year-old filly has improved out of all recognition since winning aYarmouth maiden in March, and gained her first Group One success from Peeress and Flashy Wings at the Curragh earlier this month.

The daughter of Intikhab is unbeaten in seven starts this term, and Bell also revealed that he has high hopes she will stay in training as a four-year-old after a possible tilt at the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in Keeneland in October.

“All things being equal Red Evie will run in the Sun Chariot,” he said. “She’s in good form, she worked this morning, her first piece since the Matron Stakes, and she looked on good terms with herself.

“We could not have imagined that she would be beating older, Group One-winning fillies and mares at the beginning of the season but she is just one of those fillies that keeps on improving.

“She also has an amazing will to win.

“The Matron was thrilling but it was also a top-class race, she beat Group One winners and she looks like the best filly at the trip of her generation. It will be interesting if Rajeem runs though.

“The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Keeneland on October 14 has been discussed depending on how well she comes out of the Sun Chariot but there are only two weeks between the races. It would all depend on how hard a race she had.

“No decision has been made for next year yet and we’ll have to have a chat with Terry Neill, but I hope there is a good chance she will stay in training.”
