Three in every five babies born to mothers aged 30 plus
20/09/2006 - 14:28:26Three in every five babies in Ireland are being born to women over the age of 30, according to figures published by the Central Statistics Office today.
The figures also show that one-quarter of all registered births in the first quarter of this year were to mothers aged 35 and older.
A total of almost 16,000 babies were born during the three-month period, up 624 on the figure for the first quarter of 2005.
Two-fifths of all births were to first-time mothers, while just over one-third were outside marriage.
