Protest over A&E department at Mater hospital
The continuing Accident and Emergency crisis at the Mater Hospital has come under the spotlight again.
The Labour Party will lead a protest at the gates of the hospital this lunchtime to highlight the situation.
This series of protests began over three years ago, and the party claims the situation is as bad as ever.
It says patients are continuing to endure long waits on trolleys in unsuitable conditions.
“On an All-Ireland weekend like this a lot of people will be coming in would be drunk and disorderly,” said Labour spokesperson Joe Costello.
“They'd be shouting their head off because they've fallen on the street and need a few stitches. And they're going to be cheek by jowl with an elderly person who has had a stroke. Those circumstances can be quite terrifying and are quite unacceptable.”
