29 bodies found in Baghdad

The bodies of 29 people who appeared to have been tortured before being killed have been found around Baghdad, Iraqi police said today.

The bodies were found at different locations around the capital between 3pm (12pm Irish time) yesterday and 7am (4am Irish time) this morning, said Baghdad police Lt. Thair Mahmoud. He did not have any details about where exactly the bodies were found, how many locations were involved or how many bodies were found at each location.

Many of the people had been blindfolded and their arms and legs had bound before they were killed, police said.

Many of the bodies bore signs of torture, he said.
