Taxi unions to hold more talks with regulator on Monday

15/09/2006 - 07:57:35
Representatives of the three main taxi unions are set to meet the industry's regulator on Monday for further talks about a planned new fare structure.

Hundreds of taxi drivers, most of them based in Dublin, have already held four work stoppages to protest at the reforms, which will abolish luggage charges and the special fee for pick-ups at Dublin Airport.

Earlier this week, the drivers blocked O'Connell Street in Dublin city centre after the regulator refused to renegotiate the new fare structure due to come into force on Monday week.

They have also threatened to disrupt the Ryder Cup later this month.
