GRA refusing to accept defeat over garda reserve plans

15/09/2006 - 12:12:39
The Garda Representative Association is refusing to accept defeat in its campaign of opposition to the planned garda reserve.

The association has instructed its members to process applications from members of the public who want to join the part-time force.

Meanwhile, the GRA is also accusing the Department of Justice of exaggerating the levels of public interest in the reserve.

It says it does not believe that more than 6,400 people have applied to join the force, but the department has insisted that the figure is accurate.
