15/09/2006 - 15:36:10
A Democratic Unionist Party MLA from South Belfast claimed £18,000 (€26,700) in travel expenses during a 12-month period despite the fact that his constituency is just 10 miles from Stormont.

The claims are included in new figures out today showing that the 108 Assembly members claimed a total of £500,000 (€742,000) during the 2004-2005 Stormont term.

The DUP's Mark Robinson claimed £18,000 (€26,7000), almost seven times as much as his UUP constituency colleague Michael McGimpsey.

His bill was surpassed only by Sinn Féin's Pat Doherty, who represents West Tyrone and who lives in Donegal.
