Performances are compelling in The Night Listener
The Night Listener
Director: Patrick Stettner
Cast: Robin Williams, Toni Collette, Rory Culkin, Sandra Oh
Cert: 16
Two fine performances from Williams and Collette give this interesting and ultimately satisfying drama its edge.
He plays a failed radio show host who discovers the autobiography of 14-year-old Culkin and starts a telephone relationship with the boy. The bio reveals a harrowing tale of sexual abuse but when Williams sets out to actually meet the boy he is prevented from doing so by his guardian (Collette).
So does the boy really exist and is the book for real?
The performances are quite compelling and the development of the plot allows the audience to play detective … even if the conclusions reached are way off beam.
Star Rating: 4/5
