Iraqi police find 60 bodies in Baghdad

13/09/2006 - 08:09:09
Police have found 60 bodies scattered around the Iraqi capital, the majority dumped in predominantly Sunni Arab areas of Baghdad.

All the bodies were bound, bore signs of torture and had been shot, said police 1st Lt. Thayer Mahmoud.

Such killings are usually the work of death squads, operated by Sunni Arabs and Shiites, who kidnap people, usually torture them with power drills and then shoot them.

The bodies were found overnight; 45 were discovered in predominantly Sunni Arab parts of western Baghdad. The rest were found in predominantly Shiite areas of eastern Baghdad.
