‘Heffo’ to help Dublin minors
Much-loved former Dublin player and manager Kevin Heffernan is to be part of the capital’s minor football management team for the 2007 season.
The man known simply as ‘Heffo’, who famously guided the Dubs to senior All-Ireland wins in 1974, ‘76, ‘77 and ‘83, is to act as an advisor to Dublin minor manager Timmy McCarthy.
Dublin have not won an All-Ireland minor title since 1984 when Australian Rules legend Jim Stynes and current Dublin senior selector Paul Clarke were on the team.
Their last successes of note at the grade were the Leinster championship triumphs of 2001 and 2003.
Heffernan, who is now 76, has kept his toe in management waters, taking charge of his own club St Vincent’s underage hurlers in recent seasons.
McCarthy’s selectors for next season will be John Archibald and John Lowndes.
