ISEQ creeps into black

The ISEQ crept into the black this afternoon with a 41.38 point increase to 7997.96, nudged on by modest gains in the financial sector.

AIB and Bank of Ireland were both up by 1c and 4c to €19.81 and €14.65 respectively. Anglo Irish Bank however, dropped by 5c to €12.40.

IL&P charged ahead with a 24c rise in the wake of announcements that it is to reform its employee pension plans, restricting the scheme to existing members with limited access to new staff. Shares at close stood at €18.94.

Building company Grafton suffered losses today with a 36c plunge to €10.49. These losses came in the face of good news from the group which reported a 35% jump in pre-tax profits for the six months to the end of June.

Pre-tax profits rose from €87.4m to €118.3m, on revenues of €1.43bn, up 10% on the same time last year.
