Sanchez hails Irish fans
Lawrie Sanchez has posted a message of thanks to Northern Ireland supporters but remains bitter at the criticism he and his players have received.
Sanchez has decided to stay on as manager until the end of his contract after days of speculation about his future.
He went to ground after a David Healy hat-trick saw Northern Ireland famously defeat Spain in a Euro 2008 qualifier as he was angered at criticism of his side .
In an e-mail to fans' website Our Wee Country, he said: “I would personally like to thank you all for your support over the last few difficult days.
“I would like to apologise if any gloss has been taken off the tremendous team performance and David Healy’s brilliant hat-trick. If you were there I am sure the occasion will last you a lifetime when all the other nonsense will be long forgotten.
“My statement (on his future) will no doubt mean open season for me from certain sections of the Northern Ireland media, and I have no doubt attempts will be made to alienate you from me.
“All I ask is that make up your own mind rather than have the opinions of those with other agendas foisted upon you. Together I am sure that we will experience many more nights like Wednesday and I am glad I will be here to share them with you.”
