Women's team heads for Home Internationals

08/09/2006 - 10:38:39
The Irish women's golf team travels to England this weekend to play in the Ladies Home Internationals at Frilford Heath on September 13-15.

Ireland will have their work cut out if they are to overturn three former losses to the Home Unions when this year’s series of matches start on Wednesday morning.

“The girls were very disappointed with last year’s performance” commented team captain Lilian Starrett. “After all the hype and expectation of securing a hat-trick of victories in front of a home crowd, this year we’ll get back to basics and focus on winning one hole at a time” she added.

England will be looking to secure their second consecutive title and will be ably led by Curtis Cup stars Melissa Reid and Naomi Edwards. Wales will look to heroine Breanne Loucks who captured an impressive three points from three outings at Bandon Dunes while Scotland, currently enjoying a successful re-building phase, will look to St Rule Champion Krystle Caithness and Curtis Cup reserve Heather Macrae to capture the Miller Trophy.

Play starts Wednesday at 8.30am and all are welcome to the admission-free tournament.
