Ireland finished with the wooden spoon as Scotland stormed to victory in the Men's Home Internationals at Pyle and Kenfig.

Michael Burns' troops lost 8-7 to hosts Wales on the final day as the Scots crushed favourites England 10-5.

Leading 3-2 after the foursomes, Ireland battled hard in the singles but only Jonathan Caldwell, Darren Crowe and Connor Doran managed wins.

Lurgan's Gareth Shaw got a fine half with Ryan Thomas despite going two down with three to play while Niall Kearney earned half a point against Craig Evans.

European champion Rory McIlroy lost 2 and 1 to US college star Rhys Davies while 'South' winner Simon Ward was hammered 7 and 6 by Walker Cup veteran Nigel Edwards.

McIlroy, who was four down after just six holes, battled back to be one down with three to play before falling at the 17th.

In the championship match, Scotland took a two point lead after the foursomes before winning six and half points from the ten singles.
