Chan 'fed up' with action films
Jackie Chan says he is ready to quit as an action hero.
The 52-year-old star – famed for doing all his own stunts – revealed he is “fed up” with doing the same roles.
He wants to be remembered for his acting skills rather than his martial arts moves.
Speaking at the Venice Film Festival, the Hong Kong star said: “I’ve been willing to change my roles for quite some time. I’m fed up with these roles.
“We all know that the life of an action movie actor is quite a short career. I already consider myself a myth for still being around today.
“I want to put myself to the test by interpreting and acting different characters. I would like people in future to see my movies and consider me an actor who can act in action movies, not just someone who knows about martial arts and happens to be an actor. I want to change.”
And he joked: “When people come up to me in the street in America they say: ‘Ah, Jackie Chan!’ and do all the action moves. No one does that to Robert De Niro.”
Chan is in Venice to promote his new comedy Rob-B-Hood, in which he plays a gambler who kidnaps the infant grandson of a tycoon and is left holding the baby.
The actor has appeared in close to 100 movies and claims to have broken nearly every bone in his body performing his death-defying stunts.
He is Asia’s biggest box office star and his Hollywood hits include Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon.
