Further manufacturing expansion recorded in August

01/09/2006 - 11:34:47
August's NCB survey of Irish manufacturers signalled further growth in business conditions.

At 54.1, the seasonally-adjusted NCB Purchasing Managers' Index - an indicator designed to provide a single-figure measure of the economic health of the manufacturing industry - signalled
growth for the thirty-sixth consecutive month.

Moreover, the index continued to signal marked expansion of the sector, albeit the lowest since April.

Chief economist at NCB Stockbrokers Dermot O’Brien said: "The recovery in manufacturing activity continued in August although the pace of expansion eased once again.

"Output growth held up well but there was a slower rate of growth in new orders and employment. Input and output price pressures increased a little in the month."
