Culhane back at the weekend

31/08/2006 - 15:46:52
Tony Culhane returns to action on Saturday for the first time since breaking his right collarbone and suffering a collapsed lung in a fall at Pontefract earlier this month.

He sustained the injuries when his mount, Roclette, was involved in a three-horse pile-up at the West Yorkshire track on August 9.

Culhane has made a good recovery and starts off with three booked rides at Thirsk.

His agent Mark Gilchrist said: “Everything has gone really well. He’s a tough lad and is fairly disciplined.

“He is fit and well – he will be back on Saturday and he’s really looking forward to it.

“He’s got three mounts because obviously it was a bad injury so he’s just going to ease back in quietly.

“He’s got a couple of nice rides for Mr Channon (Emerald Wilderness and Linda Green) and a nice ride on Raucous for Thomas Tate in the Hambleton Cup.

“We’ve missed some high-profile winners – Welsh Emperor, Quito and Youmzain (in the Great Voltigeur Stakes) – and we’ve missed a lot of other winners.

“But it was just fantastic the lad walked away because it was an horrific fall.

“He had been flying and was on target for his best year. But hopefully the stables he rides for will keep in a rich vein of form and we can get a few winners and kick on from here.”

Culhane has ridden 68 winners this year.
