Shots fired at onlooker during Tipperary store raid

31/08/2006 - 11:43:21
Shots were fired at a member of the public during the course of a robbery at a supermarket in Cashel, Co Tipperary, early this morning.

A number of men are understood to have been involved in a raid on the Costcutters premises at Lower Gate Square.

The Gardaí say a member of the public noticed a car acting suspiciously in the area just after 4am and stopped to take its registration.

He then saw a man in the vehicle putting on a balaclava and brandishing what appeared to be a rifle.

The gunman subsequently fired two shots at the passer-by's car, but he was not hurt in the incident.
