DTO employees consider strike ballot

Employees at the Dublin Transportation Office (DTO) are considering whether to hold a strike ballot over fears for the future of their jobs.

The workers are angry at Minister for Transport Martin Cullen for refusing to confirm whether their jobs will be transferred to the Dublin Transport Authority when it takes over from the DTO.

Their union, SIPTU, says it has contacted the Department of Transport on numerous occasions, but officials have refused to meet with them until a working party is established to examine the matter.

Spokesman Owen Reidy said today that the department was breaching agreements by refusing to discuss the issue.
