Three changes for Galway minors

30/08/2006 - 09:52:05
Galway minor manager Mattie Murphy has made three changes to his side for Sunday's ESB All-Ireland MHC final against Tipperary (Croke Park, throw-in 1.30pm).

There are alterations to the half-back, half-forward and full-forward lines as Kinvara's Shane Quinn, Martin Corcoran from Meelick-Eyrecourt and Ardrahan's Gary Hennelly are all drafted in.

Gary Burke, Kevin Teehan and Pete Killilea are the players to make way. There is one positional switch from the 2-12 to 0-16 semi-final win over Cork with Ahascragh's Laurence Tully moving from wing back to wing forward.

Galway are attemping to become the first team since Cork (1971) to win three successive Irish Press Cups.

Only prodigious captain Joe Canning and goalkeeper James Skehill remain from last year's Galway side - Portumna forward Canning is bidding to win his third All-Ireland minor medal. He was a winner at Croke Park in March when he helped guide Portumna to All-Ireland club glory.

Galway have played just two games en route to Sunday's decider - the 4-7 to 1-14 quarter-final win over Antrim and their defeat of Munster champions Cork.

They beat Tipperary in the 2004 semi-final.

GALWAY (MHC v Tipperary) - J Skehill; J Ryan, M McMahon, A Moylan; D Burke, K Keane, S Quinn; E Forde, G Lally; A Harte, M Corcoran, L Tully; S Coen, J Canning (capt), G Hennelly.
