Keane still hoping to make All-Ireland final

30/08/2006 - 15:55:08
Despite a hectic few days which saw him return from holidays and unveiled as the new manager of Sunderland, the Roy Keane revealed yesterday that he is hoping to get some bit of credit if Cork win three in a row on Sunday.

Keane spoke with the Cork hurlers last month and indicated yesterday that he is still trying to get to Croke Park with his son Aidan to see the All-Ireland final against Kilkenny.

“Right now, I’m not sure whether or not I can make it,” Keane said. “I was planning to travel with my boy but all that has changed now with this new job.

“I’ve had a hectic few days and there is lots of work to be done, so I will have to wait and see on Friday.

“This has been a very busy few days. I might need a holiday by the end of the week. I am still hopeful I can go with my boy.”

Keane also revealed that his meeting with the hurlers came about as a favour to a friend who knows John Allen.

“I met with the hurlers as a favour. I am asked to do favours all the time and if I can I will. It was a pleasure to meet with them.

“Hopefully if they win I can claim some credit! It will have been worthwhile then.”

Keane was then pressed about his ticket if he was not able to attend the final and what he was doing with it.

When a reporter asked if he could have them he laughed, walked away and remarked: “Are we talking face value?”
