Anelka is our 'smallest gamble' - Allardyce

30/08/2006 - 11:36:13
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce claims he has not taken a risk by signing former Manchester City and Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka.

The Frenchman has joined the Wanderers from Fenerbahce in a club record deal worth £8m (€12m).

The 27-year-old has a reputation for causing trouble but Allardyce believes he will be a superb addition to his squad.

In a new conference television by Sky Sports News, Allardyce said: “I think it is the smallest gamble we have ever taken. Nic’s record speaks for itself.

“We want to help him along the way and produce and perform and I am really looking forward to the opportunity of working with him and the rest of the squad is as well.

“It’s full-on now and Watford will be his debut due to the unfortunate injury to Kevin (Davies).”
