Brazil woman gives birth to 14lb baby
Doctors delivered a 14lb girl by Caesarean section at a hospital on Rio De Janeiro’s west side.
They said the baby was so large her feet extend over the edge of her cot.
The baby, Isabel Vitoria, was born on Sunday measuring 59 centimetres and was the largest baby ever born in the hospital and believed to be the second largest baby ever born in Brazil, said Antonio Pimenta, an administrator at the Rocha Faria State Hospital.
The largest baby on record in Brazil weighed 16 pounds, 11-ounces and was born in the north-eastern city of Salvador in January 2005.
Pimenta said Isabel Vitoria was in good health and expected to leave the hospital tomorrow.
The baby was the first daughter for Elisa Maia dos Ribeiro, a 36-year-old housewife who has already gave birth to three boys all of who were large, but substantially smaller than their sister.
