Gardaí investigate Galway stabbing

Gardaí are investigating an incident in which a woman in her 40s was stabbed in daylight hours on Francis Street in Galway city yesterday.

It happened following an argument between the woman and a man on the busy street in front of dozens of shoppers.

Witnesses said the man - who was arrested - was seen brandishing a knife.

The woman is now in a stable condition in hospital.
