Iranian heavy-water plant enters another phase of production

26/08/2006 - 12:35:56
Iran’s hard-line president declared today that his country’s controversial nuclear programme poses no threat to any other country, even Israel “which is a definite enemy”.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made the comment in ceremonies inaugurating a heavy-water production plant in Khondab which went into operation despite UN demands that Iran roll back its nuclear programme.

Tehran says is for peaceful purposes but Western countries fear could eventually be used to develop a nuclear bomb.

During a speech, Ahmadinejad declared that Iran would never abandon its nuclear programme and repeated that nuclear weapons are not the goal.

“We are not a threat to anybody,” he said. “Basically there is no talk of nuclear weapons. There is no discussion of nuclear weapons, even for the Zionist regime which is a definite enemy.”
