Cluster bomb probe in the Lebanon
26/08/2006 - 08:50:18The US State Department is investigating whether Israel misused American-made cluster bombs in civilian areas of Lebanon.
The United Nations says unexploded cluster bombs - anti-personnel weapons that spray bomblets over a wide area - litter bombed-out homes, gardens and main roads in south Lebanon.
A spokeswoman for the UN Mine Action Co-ordination Centre said it was not illegal to use cluster bombs against soldiers or enemy fighters, but the Geneva Conventions banned their use in civilian areas.
