Olympics task force role for ex-GAA chief
Former GAA president Sean Kelly and Budget Travel chief Gillian Bowler will be among the members of the new London 2012 Olympics Task Force unveiled by the Government today.
Sports Minister John O’Donoghue will introduce all 14 members of the high-level group tasked with maximising the performance of Irish athletes at the UK games.
Mr O’Donoghue will later address the Task Force’s first meeting in Government Buildings.
Other members of the group include Olympic Council of Ireland president Pat Hickey, Arts Council chairperson Olive Braiden, U2 accountant Ossie Kilkenny and music composer Micheal O’Suilleabhan.
The Oireachtas Sport Committee’s 2005 report, ’Ireland and the Olympics: From Athens to London’ recommended the establishment of a steering group to co-ordinate Irish participation in the 2012 games.
