Godolphin in Winter wonderland
Godolphin are hoping Reunite can provide them with a sixth success in tomorrow’s totesport.com Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor.
Sheikh Mohammed’s operation captured this contest in 2004 with Ancient World, Naheef in 2002 and Annus Mirabilis, who notched up a hat-trick of wins in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Reunite, a three-year-old daughter of Kingmambo, will be having her second crack at Pattern-race company after finishing a creditable fifth in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
She then landed a Listed event at Yarmouth before finding just Fermion too good at Newbury last time out.
“Reunite is a Listed winner and she is back in good form and ready to run again,” trainer Saeed bin Suroor told www.godolphin.com.
“She’s working nicely but this is a Group Three and is a tough race for her. She has a good chance so we will see.”
Kerrin McEvoy will take the ride on Reunite while regular partner Frankie Dettori is on Clive Brittain’s Kandidate.
David Simcock is hoping Metropolitan Man can provide him with a first Group success in the £50,000 (€74,000) feature.
The Dr Fong colt steps up to 10 furlongs for the first time having been campaigned solely over a mile in his five starts this term.
He ran well when fifth behind Araafa at Royal Ascot in June and was last seen finishing a close-up second to Prince Of Light in a Listed contest at Glorious Goodwood.
“He’s very well and ran a great race at Goodwood last time,” Simcock said.
“I was delighted with that performance and he was just unlucky to find one better. The winner had the run of the race.
“The extra quarter-mile is obviously a concern because we’re going into unknown territory but the gut feeling is that he will have no problem getting it.
“If there was any soft in the going description he wouldn’t run, but at the moment everything is good,” he added.
