Two killed, five injured in Baghdad car bomb attack
24/08/2006 - 10:24:23A parked car rigged with a bomb exploded today in Baghdad’s eastern neighbourhood of Rashad, killing two civilian pedestrians and injuring five others.
The explosion, which took place about 100 yards away from a police station, also damaged four civilian cars, said police Lieutenant Bilal Ali Majid. He had no other details.
The attack was the latest in the sectarian violence between Shiites and Sunnis sweeping Baghdad and nearby provinces. Rashad is a mixed neighbourhood.
Also today, five day labourers were injured when an explosive device hidden in rubbish container went off outside a paint shop in Tayaran Square in central Baghdad, Majid said.
