11 killed, 11 wounded in Iraq violence

A car bomb in the mixed neighbourhood of al-Mashtal in eastern Baghdad killed two civilian pedestrians and injured five others today.

The explosion occurred about 100 yards from a police station, said police Lieutenant Bilal Ali Majid.

Another car bomb, targeting a police patrol in the Sunni neighbourhood of Azamiyah, killed two civilians and wounded four people, including two policemen, police 1st Lieutenant Thair Mahmoud said.

In the Azamiyah neighbourhood, gunmen opened fire on a police patrol, killing one policeman and wounding another.

To the north, a bomb in a minivan killed three policemen and wounded a minivan driver in Baqouba, about 35 miles north-east of Baghdad.

On the outskirts of the city, a roadside bomb struck an Iraqi army convoy, killing three soldiers and destroying their armoured vehicle, said Baqouba army commander Brigadier Salman al-Talabani.
